Spring Hill TN Library

The Spring Hill Library has some great programs that many people don’t know about. I wanted to let you know about them, especially if you’re new to the area. Don’t be concerned that the library is in Maury County. They serve all of Spring Hill, Columbia, and even Franklin.

Directions to Library: If you’re traveling south from Franklin on HWY 31, take a right on Kedron Rd. The library is a large, one-story building on the right. The address is 144 Kedron Pkwy, Spring Hill, TN.

Kids Story Time: Story time is well attended and a great way to meet some other moms in the area. The kids are usually babies through preschool, but kindergardeners come in the summer. They usually tell 3 stories a week and do songs and crafts.

  • Here is the March 2010 Calendar
  • 10:00am – 11:00am; Mon through Thurs
  • Instructions at the bottom of this page to get Current Calendar

Kids Theater Time: This program is closely related to Story Time. The local theater group does plays for the kids on Saturdays. It doesn’t happen every Sat, so you’ll have to check the calendar at the library’s website. There are instructions to find the calendar at the bottom of the page.

Creative Movement: After story time on Thursday, starting around 11:00, the kids are invited to stay and do some creative movement with instructors from the Tennessee Dance Arts Conservatory.

Summer Reading Program: Local business donate prizes that go into the summer reading program. Then, kids can earn the prizes for reading over the summer.

  • Wednesdays during the summer
  • Kids through high school age

Chicks with Sticks: Knitting is all the rage lately (from what I’m told). Actresses like Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz are helping it make a comeback. I’ve even heard it being called the “New Yoga”. The library does have a knitting group.

  • Beginners encouraged to come
  • 1st and 3rd Sat of the month
  • 9:00 am
  • Any age: attended by 14 year olds all the way to seniors

English as a Second Language (ESL): The library hosts ESL classes twice weekly. They have students from all language backgrounds and use Rosetta Stone as their teaching program.

  • Tues and Thus
  • 3:30pm – 5:00pm

Maury County YMCA Flag Football and Youth Soccer

The Maury County YMCA has flag football and youth soccer in the Spring.

Flag Football is for ages: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-13. Registration is Jan and most of Feb, and the season is in the Spring from approximately March 27th through May 22nd. Practices are once a week, and games are on Saturdays.

Youth Soccer is for ages: 3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-10, 11-13. Registration and the season are about the same as flag football, and practices are once a week.

The fees are the same for both: $70 for members and $85 for nonmembers.

Even though both programs are relatively new, 2007 for soccer and 2008 for football, they have approximately 400 kids participating between the two programs. The director of the programs told me that they use volunteer coaches who are background checked and that they always need field and team sponsors.
